VIP benefits more than 3,000 individuals each year as a healthcare provider, employer, and housing developer

Based on the evolving needs of its clients
and the changing behavioral and healthcare environment, VIP's large menu of creative and innovative services has evolved from its core service -- addiction treatment. Today, in addition to methadone treatment in one of the city's most up-to-date facilities, VIP offers comprehensive programs for all substance abuse, highly respected healthcare and HIV case management services, HIV prevention services, housing and vocational/educational services. Because these are all fully integrated, clients can take advantage of the appropriate program or service at the point when they're ready to benefit from it.

All VIP client relationships begin at its unique Centralized Intake Unit -- which is not only the entry point to VIP, but also the vehicle for the customized integration of services for each client. VIP sees each client as a whole person. So, it uses this first step to assess not just the client's past and present substance abuse, but also to learn about his or her physical and emotional health, family situation, education, work skills, financial status, as well as any criminal justice mandates. The information gathered forms the basis for an initial treatment plan, which VIP counselors fully discuss with the client, along with any other options.

For clients with special treatment mandates from the criminal justice system, VIP's Intake Unit remains involved throughout the recovery process. It tracks and monitors each client's progress through its information system -- with input and recommendations all along the way from everyone who works with the client. Learning, re-assessment and treatment adjustments occur smoothly based on the client's needs at any given point.
