VADM Jerome M. Adams, U.S. Surgeon General, along with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), released Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General’s Spotlight on Opioids. The Spotlight on Opioids is a condensed document with opioid-relevant content from the 2016 Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health, updated prevalence statistics, and progress to address the opioid epidemic. The report calls for a cultural shift in the way Americans talk about the opioid crisis and recommends actions that can prevent and treat opioid misuse and promote recovery.

The Surgeon General also released a digital postcard which is a call to action to the general public, listing 5 actions every person can do to stem the opioid epidemic.
