Jorge, a tenant and veteran, distributes boxes of fruit to VIP’s Family Shelter

By Janette Viera, Director of Housing

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, tenants in VIP’s housing and shelter services have been looking out for one another more diligently by showing acts of kindness. These acts include wellness checks, going to the store for tenants with limited mobility, and even cooking for each other.

Jorge, a resident in VIP housing, has been extraordinary with his acts of kindness by purchasing boxes of fruit and distributing them to the Bronx Parent Housing Network’s Family Shelter located at 1802 Crotona Avenue.

“I have plenty, but others don’t know where their next meal is coming from,” Jorge said about what motivates him to give.

Jorge’s acts of kindness are the personification of the meaning “To Serve”. Jorge served our country honorably and continues that tradition of service to the East Tremont community.
