Supportive Housing
VIP offers supportive housing that is affordable for individuals and families that includes supportive social services. The various housing types are for people who are unhoused or at risk of becoming homeless and have high service needs, serious mental illness, are chronically homeless, and for those with co-occurring disorders. The units are allocated to the community and to direct referrals from the coordinate assessment and placement system (CAPS) operated by Human Resources Administration (HRA) in New York City.

Shelters
VIP offers shelter for families, children, single adult male and female clients, including transitional housing and comprehensive social services. Services include a safe place to sleep, food, case management, vocational and employment assistance, structured socialization and recreation, and placement into permanent housing. In addition, staff make direct internal and external referrals to connect (or reconnect) clients to services as needed, such as primary care, entitlements and benefits, substance use disorder and mental health services. VIP cannot take direct walk-ins. Access this link for information about how to get assigned to one of VIP’s housing sites: Homeless Intake Shelters and Drop-In Centers (DICs) – ACCESS NYC.
Sanctuaries
VIP operates several sanctuaries for migrant families with children seeking asylum who are directly referred to VIP by the NYC Department of Homeless Services. Services include a safe place to sleep, registering children for school, medical and mental health visits, meals, legal aid referrals, and developing an exit plan for permanent housing until their asylum cases are heard. VIP opened the City’s first sanctuary facility at the request of NYC Department of Homeless Services and continues to be a partner in this initiative.
