There are unseasonably hot conditions on Tuesday, May 19. Cooling centers will open across all five boroughs; New Yorkers are encouraged to call 311 or use the City’s Cool Options Finder to locate the nearest site. Residents are urged to take precautions to stay cool, healthy, and informed during heat advisory period.

The NWS reports heat index values in NYC from 91 to 96°F on Tuesday afternoon, peaking between 1-5 pm in parts of the Bronx, northern Manhattan, and Staten Island. An Air Quality Health Alert is in effect until 11 pm, with an AQI of 105, unhealthy for sensitive groups. Weather could worsen air quality through Wednesday.  Poor air quality can heighten respiratory stress, notably for those with asthma or allergies. New Yorkers should stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat, and find air-conditioned spaces.
